WrestleMania Aftermath: Where Does JBL Go From Here

Reported By Patrick W. Boucher on Apr 6, 2009 - 3:02:49 AM

Welcome to the first, of a series of columns, regarding the WrestleMania aftermath.  First up, lets discuss JBL going forward.

As it has been well-documented over the last several months, JBL’s back problems continue to be a nagging issue.  Last night’s match with Rey will likely be one of his last, if not the very last match of his career.

JBL’s match with Rey was short, to say the least.  I expected a longer match from the two, but it came to an abrupt end, followed with an announcement that many expected.

What does this ultimately mean for JBL’s future with WWE, likely the departure of Tazz and the draft coming up, one could only assume his return to announcing.  The 2009 WWE Draft is less than one week away and there are many ways this draft could better all brands.  Today I will not go in detail about it.

JBL as a manager?  Highly doubt he would even consider a role similar to that of a manager.  He hasn’t aligned himself, on-air, with any wrestlers in a year or two so that route is likely not going to happen.

JBL as a general manager?  It’s about time brands received a shake-up with the GM’s and JBL would fit that role perfectly.  But having JBL on RAW and Guerrero on SD wouldn’t be a viable option with both being heals.

The only fitting role for JBL would be to commentate.  His past experience elevates him even further, and he is a decent commentator.

Overall, I’ve been a fan of JBL’s for years despite his decline in ability in the ring.  We will likely find out more about where JBL will go from here on RAW tonight, so don’t miss out!
