- TNA Wrestling filed a request for a declaratory judgement against Konnan (a/k/a Charles Ashenoff) regarding the lawsuit he has threatened to file against the company on the grounds of racial discrimination.
"(Konnan) claimed TNA directed him to speak in a Spanish slang or a Spanish accent, directed him to dress and adopt particular characteristics of a Latino street gang, directed him to use 'racially charged' language toward a Caucasian wrestler, and hit another wrestler with a tequila bottle," reads the paperwork filed by TNA.
"Defendant also complained that, in connection with his providing 'professional wrestling services,' TNA management referred to certain people as 'brownies, Mexicans, and drunken Puerto Ricans.' Defendant further badly asserted that TNA paid 'minority performers substantially less than other similarly situated non-minority performers.
"Finally, despite suspending Defendant before he raised any issues of racial discrimination, Defendant complained that TNA retaliated against him for making complaints of racial discrimination." To read the full full complaint filed by TNA, visit ReporterBlogs.com.
It will be interesting to see where the case goes from here, as it doesn't appear that TNA is willing to settle this case out of court. As previously reported, Konnan's lawyer Cary Ichter filed an Equal Employment Opportunity complaint, but has not filed an actual lawsuit against TNA, although the paperwork TNA filed indicates that they have received a draft of the lawsuit he intends to file.
