Rory McAllister Speaks On Release, Highlanders Gimmick

Reported By Patrick Boucher on Saturday, August 16 2008

-- As announced yesterday, both members of The Highlanders, Rory & Robbie McAllister, were released from World Wrestling Entertainment. Rory has posted a blog on his MySpace page regarding his release. He starts off by thanking WWE for his time in the company. However, he then admits that he wasn't too happy during his last days in the company. He talks about how he wasn't thrilled with how The Highlanders were portrayed in WWE and that they weren't allowed to be who they were in the independents, which initially got them hired. Rory wrote, "But the flip side of all that is I was becoming very unhappy there. We were hired because of who we were on the independents and that sure wasn't what we were allowed to be on t.v. The goofy guys you saw on there just wasn't who we were and with a gimmick like that I knew it was going to be hard to step out from that shadow and be taken seriously and we weren't. Also after Monday night I knew the writing was on the wall. I hadn't been in a ring for seven months and the match we did seemed like a swansong to us both." Here is his statement in its entirety, which you can also read at this link:

Comments on release

As I'm sure you've all heard by now The Highlanders are no longer working for WWE. I know that some people have been bitter and upset after getting released but for me this just isn't the case. Sure there are some things that I wishe had been done better but I have no regrets.

WWE gave me more than I had been given before in this business and I am thankfull for that. I spent time living in a car on the independants where as now I have a nice house and no longer life in my car but enjoy driving it:) My time in WWE was a roller coaster for sure. I love the fans there and that was the main reason I loved being there. I made many friends, most of whom have been released long before me, and I will and do miss hanging out with them and I had fun with most of the agents and backstage boys. But the flip side of all that is I was becoming very unhappy there. We were hired because of who we were on the independants and that sure wasn't what we were allowed to be on t.v. The goofy guys you saw on there just wasn't who we were and with a gimmick like that I knew it was gonig to be hard to step out from that shadow and be taken seriously and we weren't. Also after Monday night I knew the writing was on the wall. I hadn't been in a ring for seven months and the match we did seemed like a swansong to us both.

I'd like to thank Johnny Ace! If it wasn't for him we would have never been hired and I'd like to thank him also for the phone call today. He was very honest and actually a lot of help. He knows what he did so I won't put him over too much or he'll get a big head...lol Thanks John. I'd also like to thank everyone everywhere who supported us and made our tenure there seem worth something, even when it seemed like it wasn't. And to you the fans....what can I say? I love you all and God bless!

I will be putting up an address where we can be reached for bookings or charity work, which is truely something I enjoy.

Thank you and Albe O'ways!

Rory
