The disappointing box office take for John Cena’s “12 Rounds” has not deterred WWE from going forward with Cena as the flagship star of its movie division.

In a report on today’s press release, which announced that Mike Pavone has taken over as Executive Vice President of WWE Studios, Variety confirmed that Cena is slated for two future WWE Films projects.

One, first discussed several months ago, is a sequel to his leading role debut “The Marine.” After grossing $22.2 million worldwide during its theatrical release, the film gained a minor following on DVD. “The Marine 2″ goes straight-to-DVD this December.

Variety also says that WWE is inching granting greenlight status to a new action comedy starring Cena. The report was unclear about whether the film would receive a theatrical release, but it did note Vince McMahon’s recent announcement that the company’s film department would cut back on larger budget theatrical releases due to poor performance for its previous films.
