I had a few minutes so I thought I’d give my quick opinion on the 15th installment of WrestleMania!
WrestleMania started off great, as usual, with the Money in the Bank ladder match. While I was skeptical on the match, seeing as there was a great deal of big men in there, the match was still a decent match despite a number of botched moves. The Golden Standard stood out in the match and was disappointed when he walked out without the briefcase. Either way, CM Punk made history by winning back to back MITB matches.
Divas battle royal was as expected - a disappointment. How can it be a disappointment with no expectations? The match was complete chaos, announcers couldn’t even commentate on it, there was no order at all.
Chris Jericho vs. the legends was nothing more than average. Jericho/Steamboat put on a good match, very impressed with those two going at it. The big news is, the aftermatch of the match. Mickey Rourke KO’ing Jericho will likely lead to them feuding on RAW for several more weeks, and possibly a match at a PPV or upcoming RAW? Time will tell, waste of a storyline.
The Hardy Brothers’ match was decent, from what I saw. I missed a portion of the match. The spots, the “brutality” made this feud seem more catchy and I generally like this one.
JBL vs. Rey was only to setup the storyline of JBL quitting, nothing more and the title meant basically nothing to this match.
Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels. The match that made me purchase this lackluster PPV was everything I hoped and more. Both put on a classic battle that any wrestling fan will ever want to forget. Some great spots in there, back and forth action, finishing move after finishing move and best of all…. Undertaker’s streak continues!
Triple Threat match was a let down, despite knowing that Cena was going to come out of this one with the belt. Edge as a champion has much more of a ring to it. Big Show has lost countless WrestleMania matches so I was actually rootin for him, based on his lack of win’s in the biggest stage of them all. Cena will take the belt home to RAW and we will see where this leaves future contenders.
HHH vs. Randy Orton. The build up of this match was great, with it failing the last several weeks. Not really what I had expected. Orton basically got his can handed to him the entire match and HHH pounded his way to victory. After the match, not a McMahon was in sight. You would think they would come out and celebrate with their son-in-law after the brutality of Orton to the entire McMahon family.
Overall, would I suggest buying the replay, definitely NOT. HBK vs. Undertaker is well worth the DVD purchase, but the PPV as a whole is not WrestleMania caliber and I was shocked to be so disappointed in a huge ppv like this.
