The Icon we all know as Sting may be entering the final two months of his professional wrestling career. Granted, this is all speculation at this point, one would assume the speculation is true. Reports have been surfacing over the last several years that Sting has been pondering on retirement. Ironically, Sting/retirement talk has always surfaced around TNA’s annual Bound for Glory PPV. If that isn’t ironic enough, over the last three years, Sting came in to Bound for Glory without the Heavyweight gold, and of the last three years Sting overcame the odds and won the gold each time. Statistically Sting has only captured the TNA World Heavyweight Championship twice, while capturing the NWA Championship at Bound For Glory in 2006, tallying his title reigns at three. Despite the number of major acquisitions in TNA, Sting will remain the biggest signing in TNA history. Sting’s history goes back to the NWA in the 80’s to his career in the WCW. Sting’s years in WCW will remain a key factor in the Nitro vs. RAW ratings war. From his battles with Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, The NOW to his present day battles with Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett and Samoa Joe. Logically, one would assume that TNA would book Sting vs. the TNA Champion in a title vs. career match at Bound For Glory. Sting previously faced Jeff Jarrett in 2006 in a match with the same stipulations, which resulted in Sting capturing the TNA gold for the first time in his career. There are two ways this could play out. Sting defeats the champion, only to relinquish the title on iMPACT and announce his retirement, leaving the wrestling world on top. The second being he loses to the champion in a long, exciting battle, leaving him to give a farewell speech on iMPACT. Now, do take note that this is all hearsay in regards to Sting’s possible retirement. It would be a safe assumption that these reports turn to be true, especially considering the amount of promotion TNA is sticking into Bound For Glory suggesting it could be Sting’s final bout. With the countdown continue to tick down, time will only tell what’s in store for the man we all know, as the…. Icon.
