In Jim Ross' latest blog entry, he goes in-depth with his thoughts on John Cena's injury, amount of time he is expected to be out and much more. Below is a highlight of JR's blog entry:

Late Tuesday afternoon/early evening I am sitting in a make shift catering area in the old Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh going over my notes for Friday Night Smackdown that was to be taped in a few minutes. The catering area was essentially a ghost town as the ECW taping was in progress and others were getting ready for SD. I needed a quiet place to re-write my announcer notes and catering was it. Then came a tap on my shoulder. I turned to see who it was and low and behold it was John Cena....fresh out of surgery.

I was shocked to see John, who had just had neck surgery earlier in the day, up and around much less dropping by the ancient Igloo to simply say hello to "the boys." As I understand it, a disc in Cena's neck herniated and a fragment stuck into his spinal cord causing obvious discomfort and numbness down his right arm and into his hand. Dr. Joseph Maroon, a renowned Neurosurgeon and Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the team neurosurgeon for the Pittsburgh Steelers expertly handled the Cena's repair. This was a procedure that Dr. Maroon called an "emergency surgery."

John's surgery was a micro-surgical removal of a large piece of disc material that infringing John's spine. Cena told me that the doctors took a small piece of bone from a cadaver to use for the neck fusion.

Cena is expected to begin physical therapy next week and could be back in the ring in between 2-4 months according to Dr. Maroon.

Several Top TNA Talent's Contracts Expiring, Sting, Nash, More

Christian Cage, Sting, Team 3D, and Kevin Nash contract with TNA expires before the end of this year. Sting's contract is believed to be near finalization with an extension, as he has stated in the past that he would not appear on television unless his contract has been renewed. He appeared at the TV tapings this week.

The door is still open for a Christian Cage WWE return according to sources within the company. He left on good terms and would be able to make his return with a storyline involving Edge. He has told friends that he's happy with his current situation in TNA, which is what he told people regarding WWE before his departure.

Main Reason Gail Kim Left TNA For WWE, Bad TNA Attendance

-- The primary reason Gail Kim left TNA for WWE was due to the significant discrepancy between the kind of money WWE offered her and what TNA offered her. According to multiple sources, Kim really didn't really want to leave TNA, but she felt she had no choice but to accept WWE's offer due to the massive difference in money.

Despite being the most consistent TV ratings draws for the company, it appears that no matter how successful the female performers are for TNA, they're still not going to make much money, at least in comparison to the guys. The company still saw the top babyface in the division of what has become, from a television ratings standpoint, their most successful entity, as a low-budget expenditure. TNA offered their top female babyface star well under $100,000 per year, a figure that can only be met if she appears on a target number of shows, so if she gets hurt, she's not getting all the money. TNA's offer to Kim was said to be less than one-third of what WWE was offering - a six-figure downside guaranteed contract for three years. Also, Kim can potentially earn significantly more from appearing on pay-per-views and house shows, not to mention merchandise such as action figures. Additionally, TNA's lackluster offer to Kim probably doesn't bode well for the other girls in the company when their respective contracts come up considering that the top star couldn't even get a six figure offer.

Kim's friends had to talk her into leaving for WWE due to her strong sense of loyalty and happiness with TNA. While Kim loved TNA as well as her friends in the company, she couldn't justify not taking the significantly better offer from WWE. One friend of Kim said she really had no choice but to go for the financial security that only WWE can provide. One TNA source disappointed in her decision said she chose to be unhappy for more money rather than stay happy with the smaller company that made her a star.

There was said to be a huge void backstage at this week's Impact tapings as a number of her friends couldn't believe she was gone, especially without saying goodbye before she left.

One friend of Kim's with knowledge of TNA's apparent lowball offer deemed it to be "insulting" and "possibly sexist." Also, Kim couldn't risk getting hurt or being jobbed out once her decision to leave TNA was made.

-- There were a ton of empty seats at last Saturday's TNA event in Topeka, Kansas as the house show only drew 500 fans to the Kansas Expocentre, which can hold 8,000 seats. Additionally, house shows the week before in Dallas, Texas (8/15) and Muskogee, Oklahoma (8/17) drew poorly as well. However, the 8/16 house show in Lawton, Oklahoma reportedly drew drew okay.

Backstage Plans For Undertaker At Unforgiven, Vince Upset

-- At the moment, WWE has plans for the winner of the SmackDown Scramble match at Unforgiven to subsequently defend the title later in the night against Undertaker. The idea is that Vickie Guerrero would be giving him the title shot as a peace offering.

-- Vince McMahon was in a bad mood at last week's television tapings after SummerSlam. He was quite critical of Raw and in an even worse mood at the next day's SmackDown's tapings. The shows didn't go as he would have liked due to a timing issue as they were said to be overwritten. WWE didn't have the scripts in place for SmackDown until 7:00 p.m. on the night of the show. The disorganization reminded some of working in World Championship Wrestling. McMahon also cussed out Bruce Prichard at the Raw taping due to a certain situation. A number of people were walking around on egg shells at both television tapings when around him. Additionally, some people were reminding McMahon about his looming 63rd birthday, which took place on August 24. McMahon's still into youth and doesn't want to face the reality of aging.

-- Last night's edition of ECW drew a 1.3 cable rating, which is down from last week's 1.5 figure.

Report: Mick Foley and TNA Reach Agreement, Details Inside

TNA and Mick Foley have come to an agreement. He will able to debut in TNA as soon he is contractually permitted to. His current contract with WWE expires by September 1.

Spike TV helped TNA in landing the deal with Foley, and he may have a subsidized contract. Foley could end up being involved in other projects with Spike TV.

WWE dropped Foley from television a few weeks ago after they found he was unhappy with his status in the company and likely not renewing his contract.

There was a lot of buzz among the wrestlers in the locker room this past, but TNA officials are keeping quiet on the situation. Although, they were hopeful that TNA President Dixie Carter would get a deal done with Foley.

Why Edge Is Taking Time Off, Undertaker Comes Back Early

-- The Sun has an article on John Cena's neck injury. The article also notes that a few WWE main eventer are hurting pretty bad too. One WWE insider told The Sun that Edge desperately needed to take a few weeks off because he's so banged up. "This is why Edge is taking a few weeks off. He desperately needs to," the source explained. "His performances on the mic and limited actions kept him OK through the Hell in a Cell Match with Undertaker, but Edge is a man in a lot of constant pain, he just doesn't want to give up his top spot right now." Also, Undertaker apparently came back early for his showdown with Edge at SummerSlam. "Undertaker himself came back a little early," the source said. "His knee is still very sore, and he has to be very careful with it because he's not a youngster anymore and he could suffer an injury that could put him on the shelf for a very long time." The wear and tear of WWE’s grueling schedule is taking its toll on a number of other WWE stars as well. "It's a beat up crew right now, it's not just the injury bug. The wears and tears of WWE schedule are catching up with everyone."

-- The Sun has an interview with ECW star Finlay on his wrestling career and how he initially broke into the business in the first place. Finlay gets a part of his past history wrong when talking about how he went through a table (in a match with Brian Knobbs) and suffered a badly lacerated nerve in his leg, which nearly ended his career. He said it happened in 1998 but it actually happened in 1999. "I've only really had one injury, back in ’98 when I went through a table and severed my leg - I almost lost my leg," Finlay said. "I was out for almost five years, so when I wasn't doing that I was training guys and girls for WWE."

Another Star Hurt At SD Tapings, Jericho Comments On Character

-- Jamie Noble wrestled WWE developmental wrestler Jake Hagar in a dark match prior to last night's SmackDown/ECW taping in Pittsburgh. Noble got hurt following a belly-to-belly suplex as he landed on his neck and upper shoulders. Hagar quickly pinned him and the match was over. It then took approximately three minutes for WWE personnel to get Noble to the backstage area.

-- WWE will be returning to Madison Square Garden for a house show on Sunday, December 28. The pre-sale went on sale earlier today at TicketMaster.com and the code is UNFORGIVEN. It is currently ongoing and runs through Friday.

-- Chris Jericho discussed the overhaul of his character in an interview with the Between the Ropes radio show last night. "My mission was to completely reinvent who Chris Jericho was as a character and what Chris Jericho was as a performer and who Chris Jericho is as a performer," Jericho said. "I've really been concentrating on doing things I've never done before and doing things completely different from before. I think it's part of the heat. People really aren't happy with the fact that I'm serious about no more Y2J... It's getting to the point where when someone calls me that I'm almost insulted by it because I'm so into this whole character that I've created." Jericho also commented on a reality show he will be hosting on Fuse called Redemption Song. "We started last week and it's going great," Jericho said. He noted that the concept of the show involves female singers who screwed up their past chances in the music industry due to drinking and drugs getting a shot at redemption." Another Top Star Out Four To Six Months, Cena Surgery, More

-- Mr. Kennedy is scheduled for shoulder surgery this Friday, reports PWInsider.com. He is expected to miss four to six months after the procedure, which will be performed by Dr. Andrews. Kennedy injured his shoulder during a house show match with Shelton Benjamin earlier this month, and has been working lightly ever since. Kennedy was diagnosed with a torn labrum and damage to his rotator cuff. After two weeks of rehab and no progress, it was determined he would require surgery.

-- A number of media outlets including the Wall Street Journal have picked up WWE's press release about John Cena's emergency surgery yesterday. The release notes he went under the knife for "injuries received during last Sunday's SummerSlam(R) Pay-Per-View match." As previously noted, this is just an angle, and the nagging injury wasn't due to the match.

-- JBL's Mamajuana sex/energy drink is going to be distributed by the Innovative Beverage Group throughout the state of Texas. It should be available in grocery stores within Houston, Dallas and San Antonio in the near future.

-- Monday's WWE RAW drew a 2.8 rating for the USA Network. The rating is down from the 3.3 rating the show drew last week. This week's show had 4,091,000 viewers.

-- John Cena underwent surgery earlier today to repair a herniated disc in his neck. WWE.com updated Cena's status following the surgery. "I think John’s prognosis is excellent," neurosurgeon Joseph Maroon said. "He should be able to return to wrestling in two to four months. John will be working out next week. UPDATE: WWE.com has learned that Cena's procedure was successful and that Dr. Joseph Maroon, renowned neurosurgeon, Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Team Neurosurgeon for the Pittsburgh Steelers.was very positive about Cena's condition.

“We performed a microsurgical removal of a large disk fragment compression on the spinal cord which was weakening the nerve leading to the right arm," Dr. Maroon told WWE.com shortly after the operation. "We created a small incision in the front of the neck using an operating microscope to remove the fragment from the spinal cord and nerve. The operation took approximately an hour and a half.

"I think John’s prognosis is excellent," he added. "He should be able to return to wrestling in two to four months. John will be working out next week. We performed this same procedure on three all pro NFL players; and all three resumed their football careers.”

An official statement regarding Mick Foley's departure from WWE will be released after September 1, 2008 from Gillespie Agency. Reports have been circulating on the internet that Foley will sign with TNA. According to a source, TNA has begun working on t-shirt and merchandise ideas for Mick Foley. This further indicates him signing with TNA.

If Foley does sign with the company, they’re handling the matter similar to when Kurt Angle was signed. Dixie Carter and her small circle were the only ones to know of the signing.

John Cena Seeing Surgeons This Week, How Long Will He Be Gone?

John Cena is scheduled to be examined by Dr. Lloyd Youngblood in San Antonio later in the week. Youngblood has performed neck surgery on a number of past and present WWE stars including "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Edge, Amy "Lita" Dumas, Scotty 2 Hotty, Chris Benoit, Rhyno, and Gregory Helms. If past history is any indication, it definitely looks like Cena is going to be out of action for a very, very long time.

Austin's neck injury put him out of the ring for ten months from November 1999 to September 2000. Edge's neck injury put him on the sidelines from February 2003 to February 2004 (he was scheduled to return in February of that year, but he broke his hand and didn't return until a month later). Lita's neck injury put her out of the ring for very long time as well. While filming a fight scene for a role in the season finale of the television program Dark Angel, the stunt double Dumas was working with dropped her as she swung through a hurricanrana, causing her to land on her neck and shoulders. The injury put her out of action for seventeen months - from April 2002 to September 2003. Scotty 2 Hotty's neck injury put him out of action for seventeen months as well - from May 2002 to October 2003. Chris Benoit's neck injury put him out of action for a little more than a year - from June 2001 to July 2002. Rhyno's neck injury put him out of the ring for sixteen months - from October 2001 to February 2003. And then of course there is Gregory Helms, who has been out of action for over sixteen months and counting. Helms' neck injury has sidelined him since a few weeks after WrestleMania 23.

Cena's injury was described as a herniated disc tonight on Raw and on the company website. However, the belief is that the injury is severely worse. WWE's obviously hoping for the best when Cena visits Dr. Youngblood later this week.

Cena is scheduled to see doctors tomorrow morning with neurosurgeon Dr. Joseph Maroon at the University of Pittsburgh. He will then fly to San Antonio on Wednesday to be examined by Youngblood and we should know about the severity of the injury by then.

Rey Mysterio's Return To The Ring, SmackDown Rating, More

-- In case you missed it, Raw General Manager Mike Adamle announced during Raw that John Cena had suffered a neck injury which will require surgery and put him out of action indefinitely. Adamle then announced that Rey Mysterio will replace Cena in the Championship Scramble match. The storyline explanation for Cena's injury is that it occurred during his SummerSlam match with Batista when Cena took repeated Batista Bombs from "The Animal." Considering that Mysterio is replacing Cena in the match, it should be a good indication that he's okay in WWE world - not to mention in wrestling shape - despite the "Alive or Dead" storyline with Kane.

-- Chris Jericho's is set to host a new reality show called Redemption Song, reports ProWrestling.NET. The original title of the show was "Shame 2 Fame." The show premieres on the Fuse network on Wednesday, October 29.

-- Last Friday's Smackdown drew a 2.3 rating on the fast nationals, reports www.f4wonline.com.

Three-time WWE Champion John Cena will be out of action indefinitely with a herniated disk in his neck. Requiring surgery, this injury is the result of several Batista Bombs delivered by The Animal at SummerSlam.

According to WWE's Dr. Chris Amann, who reviewed the MRI results with Cena, the injury sustained by the Chain Gang Commander was considerably worse than originally thought with large disk herniation.

"It needs to be dealt with because I lost most of the feeling in my right arm and am having pain in my shoulder," Cena told WWE.com. "I'm losing 20 percent of my strength per day. If I don't do anything about it, the injury will end up rupturing and then the surgery will be more difficult. It's not easy, because surgery never is."

Last year, Cena missed considerable time when he tore his pectoral muscle after receiving an RKO by Randy Orton on an announce table. He later made a remarkable return to the ring months ahead of schedule at the Royal Rumble this past January.

"It's a different injury than the pectoral tear because that was more of a muscle injury; this is concerning my bones, which has a lot less blood flow than muscle tissue. It also has to do with my neck, which is a very fragile area," Cena described.

"Every moment I stay away from the table is another moment something bad can happen. The disk is so bulged out and inflamed that any sudden move could make it worse."

But when it comes to the Chain Gang Commander, the pain associated with this type of injury is perhaps second only to the anguish of being forced away from sports-entertainment – his home. Still, Cena recognizes what he needs to do, even if it means stepping away from the ring for some time.

"You can either do one or two things: You can be upset or pout or you can know what to do to get better," Cena said. "I'm already in the mode of getting the surgery as quick as I can."

He continued, "In the last ten months, I've really focused on functional strength training and I'm stronger than I've ever been. My goal is to talk to the neurosurgeon about how quickly I can get back to full-throttle training and getting back into the ring. And that's the ultimate goal – to be strong as I can and get back into the ring as soon as possible."
