Last night's No Way Out was pretty good. I was getting live updates from the various sites as well as WNW's own Richard Gray who was in attendance with his brother, Ryan. I don't agree with some of the outcomes but I was happy that John Cena didn't win the WWE Championship. Big Show's return was unexpected but Floyd Mayweather, Jr.'s involvement was great. It reminds me of when Mike Tyson got involved with Stone Cold Steve Austin. I've been reporting most of the day that it's Mayweather-Big Show at Wrestlemania. What the final plans are, I don't know. We do have 2 confirmed title matches at 'Mania. My guess is John Cena will make a claim that he wasn't really beat for the title and he'll get put in the match, too. I still think Jeff Hardy should have been put over instead of Triple H but I guess you do what you want when you're married to the Boss' daughter.
Everything else on No Way Out was solid. It wasn't an outstanding show but it was good enough not to go in the crapper. I'm glad they took out Flabby V and Crappy Khali early in the match. Batista & Undertaker worked a hell of a match at the end. I thought the ending to the Cena-Orton match wasn't that great but it was better than Cena winning. Most of the matches seemed short, except for the Elimination Chamber Matches. I guess that's what they wanted. I saw the replay of Mayweather's punches on Big Show and they looked like they hurt. I mean, DAMN! Without further ado, it's time for RAW is Blogged!!!
RAW started off with the #1 Contender for the WWE Championship, The Game, Triple H! Either I didn't notice it or Trips' pop wasn't very loud. I didn't hear very many people scream or jump up and yell until he was getting ready to start talking. Game said he was pretty happy and talked about last year at this time, he was getting ready to watch Wrestlemania 23 from a wheelchair. He said after winning last night, the Game was back where he belonged: in the main event at Wrestlemania. That's what being married to the boss' daughter will get you. He said he would become a 12-time WWE Champion. Uh, duh. Randy Orton came on out to throw his 2 cents worth into the segment. A loud chant of "YOU SUCK" broke out before Orton started talking. He said they had come full circle and named a list of his opponents he had beaten. He talked about Triple H being jealous. Before Orton could finish, John "Super" Cena made his way down to the ring. Cena wasted little time before sucking up to the crowd and to Orton. A "CENA SUCKS" chant broke out. Cena pitched a rematch for the title later that night. Cena's new shirt looks like a video game. Triple H said he didn't care who he was facing, he would beat them for the belt at Wrestlemania. Uh, duh. This brought Silly Willy Regal out to "resolve the dispute as fairly as possible." Regal made a non-title match between Orton & Cena. If Cena wins, it's a triple threat match at Wrestlemania. If Orton wins, it's a singles match. YAY! Trips didn't like that so Regal made him Special Referee for the match later on. Good way to start off RAW.
In a Money in the Bank qualifying match, Jeff Hardy defeated Snitsky. I don't know about you guys but Hardy's new theme doesn't hit the spot. He looks like he needs some time off to heal his battered body. Every MITB winner has gone on to become a champion. He missed the Whisper in the Wind but got the win anyway.
The Nature Boy Ric Flair will be the first inductee into this year's WWE Hall of Fame. They've done a crappy job with the storyline. Instead of building him up and making him the "comeback story" they've giving him one of those waterdowned versions of the storyline. Nature Boy deserves it and Triple H should eclipse his title runs.
Back from the break, they talked about the Slammys or something. The incest angle with Paul Burchill and his hot-ass sister continues. Burchill took on Super Crazy. They aired a promo from Burchill & his sister talking about their good family genes. Yeah, she's hot. This match seemed rather boring. The face plant stomp is sickening. Burchill picked up the end as Katie got in the ring to celebrate. Backstage, they showed Big Show and Shane McMahon talking. Hey TNA, take notes. This is how you bring a big name in for an angle. You know, you bring in somebody important that people actually know. Not Pacman Jones. Not Jonny Fairplay.
They showed the Kelly Kelly-Mae Young Wrestlemania commercial. Has anybody told them that there are no beaches in Orlando? That's like having something in South Georgia, where I'm at, and saying there's mountains down here.
After the commercial break, they showed WWE.com with the pictures of Mayweather rocking Big Show's face. Hope you're taking notes TNA. They showed Randy Orton & Triple H talking backstage. Trips said he would call the match to benefit him. Yay! After that, they showed the confrontation with Big Show & "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
Show made his way to the ring and said he was told to come out and apologize. He said he thought they both went a little too far. He said he knew Mayweather was in the building and he wanted him to come down the ring. Apparently, Mayweather's theme is that shitty song by 50 Cent. For those 50 Cent fans out there, he sucks and he's running out of material. Kanye West is where it's act. Mayweather came down with his posse. Damn he runs deep. Big Show ended up apologizing and Mayweather just walked out. Then, Big Show went off and ended up challenging Mayweather: the greatest fighter in the world against the largest athlete in the world. For those of you that don't know, Mayweather is a straight bad ass. He's not your average boxer and if this was a true boxing match, he would kick Big Show's ass. Mayweather ended up sprinting down to the ring and accepted the challenge. Austin-Tyson was big but this is getting right up to that level. It's only two shows into the rivalry but it's damn good so far. Somebody needs to teach Mayweather's guys how to get in and out of the ring. Mayweather flexed like he was going to throw a punch and scared Show shitless. I hope guys from TNA were taking notes. That's how you bring in an outsider and make it work.
Somebody tell them that Orlando doesn't have beaches. Jeeze! After that, they showed a package concerning the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. As JR said, if you haven't seen one of these, you should definitely go out of your way to see one.
That led us into a Money in the Bank Qualifying match. KENNEDY! Mr. Kennedy made his way down with a new theme. As much as I'm a theme song mark, these new ones suck. I'll be glad to get Kofi Kingston's when the new theme album comes out. His opponent was Val Venis. Hey, let's let Umaga take on Super Crazy for a shot at the IC title. Give these guys credible opponents! I'm not knocking Val Venis but he hasn't been around in a while and now he's supposed to try and qualify for a match that could lead to a world title shot? Come on now! They worked a short match with Kennedy winning with the mic check. As they went to commercial, they showed the cage being lowered. I guess my eyes were playing tricks on me or something.
Oh yeah, Jarod lost 245 pounds 10 years ago. Now, all of you go to McDonald's and eat a Big Mac in his honor. Or, get a Whopper from Burger King if that's your thing. They showed the events from last week when Hornswoggle beat Mr. McMahon. This storyline is really being driven into the ground.
McMahon was already in the cage, which shocked me because I was expecting a big power walk to the ring. Hornswoggle came down with Finlay by his side. Finlay walks & acts like a badass. Before the match, Finlay & Vince were arguing until JBL came out of nowhere and slammed Finlay in the cage door. Finlay was handcuffed to the top rope. Vince took off his belt and proceeded to whip Hornswoggle. Horny reminded me of me when I got my ass whipped one time. It sucked. Horny was crying and JBL played around with him. JBL ended up throwing him into the cage. Like a sick f*ck, JBL proceeded to kick Hornswoggle's ass and after every move, he would stare at Finlay. The crowning moment had to be when JBL did a fall-a-way slam on Hornswoggle into the cage. Finlay pleaded with JBL the whole time and told him he would pay for this. Vince asked for some help and told Hornswoggle he was sorry. Finlay played his role perfectly with the yelling and crying and vowing for revenge. All I have to say is damn and not that good damn like Ron Simmons is known for. If JBL was aiming to get heat to start a program with Finlay, he damn sure got it.
During the break, we saw an announcement hyping a "special appearance" by Ric Flair on ECW.
They showed the stuff that happened between Hornswoggle, Finlay, JBL and Vince. Man. JR said that the events were the most disturbing thing he's seen on RAW. Well, I thought the Katie Vick stuff was pretty sickening.
Santino Marella made his way down with Maria. Santino announced that he knew what the people wanted and they were going to get it. He said Maria would pose for Playboy and that she was going to have to take on the Glamazon Beth Phoenix. Oh well, just lay down for her and let her win, Maria. Santino had the contract and said that the only way she could pose for Playboy was by beating Beth Phoenix. Great. Well, I'll be glad to let Beth kick my ass so we can see Maria in Playboy. Her and Scott Steiner's new chick can both kick my ass for free. Beth dominated and Maria got a little offense in. Candice Michelle returned and distracted Beth so Maria could get the roll up. Candice looked awfully bouncy tonight!!
The main event for the evening was John Cena against Randy Orton with Triple H as the special referee. I was expecting a commercial break during this one but we didn't get it. Is it just me or did this RAW seem rather boring, except for the Mayweather-Big Show stuff? It was like the crowd was out of it, the announcers were out of it, and the wrestlers were out of it. The matches weren't that great either. Orton worked pretty methodically throughout the match. Cena battled back and the crowd let him hear boos. I hope Triple H was hearing all of this. I was waiting on Cena to hit 2 moves and win like he did last week. He went shoulder block then STFU for the win on Mark Henry. This week, it was 2 ½ moves that beat Orton. Cena did a weak leg takedown, ½, slapped on the STFU, 1 ½ , had a staredown with Triple H, then hit the F-U, 2 ½ for the win. Triple H ended the show by giving a Pedigree to both guys.
I give this RAW:
3 out of 4 ring posts
For a post-PPV/pre-Wrestlemania RAW, this one seemed kind of like it was mailed it. That 3 out of 4 is generous. It just seemed like the guys mailed it in. I guess it's them coming off of their tour overseas.
