Most people know my feelings on Summerslam last night. I haven't bought a WWE PPV since Wrestlemania 23. I figured I would toss $40 out, thinking I would see a few title changes, Triple H & Rey Mysterio's return, and some good entertainment. Well, I saw no title changes, some decent returns, and a funny segment with the GM's, Cryme Tyme, and Vince that was followed by Mae Young doing some ridiculous skit. I watched CM Punk, currently the best wrestler in the WWE, job to a Tough Enough guy who can't cut a promo to save his life. Morrison might be able to wrestle, even though he looks sloppy at times, but his promos & delivery come off as if he's uncomfortable in the role. The finish would have been something to do for TV this past Tuesday in the tag match, not on a PPV.
I watched a chunky Rey Mysterio come out and start off with a pretty good sequence, then get kind of sloppy. I saw the World Heavyweight Championship match end in a DQ for the second year in a row with one of the same guys involved. I won't get into the fact that the champion has a move set that most people without training could pull off. Then, the main event comes & they actually delivered until the finish. I can't believe I wasted $40 on that crap. I told myself, don't buy it, just follow the play-by-play action on one of the other wrestling sites. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed after the show. I sent in some negative feedback to WWE.com which, believe it or not, is read. Remember the December to Dismember PPV? There was a lot of negative feedback sent in & you know how the rest of it played out.
ROHWrestling.com is having a sale right now with $10 DVD's. You can get a lot of shows for just $10. You can buy the CM Punk-Samoa Joe series. You can buy the conclusion of the ROH-CZW War at Death Before Dishonor IV. I suggest for you guys that have some cash to spend & haven't seen ROH, go over there and get some DVDs. Also, for a 10% discount, enter the promo code bigten whenever you check out. If you would like suggestions on what shows to get, send me an e-mail and I'll be glad to pass the word along. The main event was good. I wouldn't consider it a match of the year, but it was good. Randy Orton can wrestle with just about anybody. The only knock I have on him is all of the sleeper holds he uses. I think I counted & he did about 5 or 6 sleepers, which is about 4 or 5 too many in my book. I honestly feel for Cena. I heard the live reports about the chants that took place and the reactions of Michael Cole & Lillian Garcia. Personally, I don't want to be associated with that. It's one thing to not like a guy, but to chant "Break His Neck" or "Cena Must Die" is overboard & disgusting in my humble opinion. I don't mind booing or various taunts but to wish a guy would get injured or die, that's over the line. It makes me sick to know that I would be classified as a wrestling fan alongside those fools. I usually don't call people a fool because that's not an insult I like to use.
I would never want to have those ingrates represent the wrestling fan community as a whole. I heard about the guy that held up the sign "If Cena Wins, We Riot." I also heard Cena took the sign into the ring and challenged the remaining crowd to step up. That took a lot of balls to do in a place where people were ready to eat him alive. I've also heard conflicting reports that Cena got in the fan's face and that he didn't get in the fan's face. I'll respect him for telling the fans "I'm right here" but if a wrestler gets in a fan's face, unless physically provoked, I will lose a tremendous amount of respect for whoever that is.
The creative team & Vince aren't helping the situation with having John Cena run over everybody. He's been put between a rock & a hard place. If he wins, he pisses off the male fans. If he loses, he pisses off the female & young fans. Cena has been the WWE Champion for 11 months now. He's been undefeated in PPV main events for 9 months now. The more Cena wins, the more fans WWE will lose. I will give Cena credit. He's making the best out of a messy situation. I respect him for his work ethic & the way he just goes out there and works his ass off knowing his gonna get booed out of the building.
RAW was on SciFi this week because of the US Open on the USA Network. I didn't figure it would hurt the ratings too bad. They started off with a recap of the main event, which reminded me that I wasted $40.
Orton came out and said he was in church all day. He then said he witnessed a miracle last night at Summerslam and I have to agree. This whole feud would have been better if they had the match at the Great American Bash, instead of just Summerslam. They closed in on some women & children cheering Cena. There were a few adult males cheering Cena. I figured they had been paid off by the E. Orton demanded a rematch and unless you lost your belt, you won't get that. Cena comes out to his typical mixed reaction and hugged his dad before he got into the ring, which was cool. As Cena sucked up to Orton & said "The Champ is Here," I noticed a "Even Boston Hates Cena" sign in the crowd. Cena tried to get a match between himself and Triple H for the title. Wow, if that had really happened, it must be nice to be Triple H. You're out since, what, Royal Rumble, and you come back and get a title shot? Wow. This brought out William Regal who made a main event between John Cena & King Booker. Let me get this straight. Booker gets run over by Triple H and now he's facing John Cena? Very interesting.
Mr. Kennedy made his way down and had some "trouble" with the mic. I liked how he covered himself and said he "meant" to do that. Jeff Hardy returned and apparently, he's rekindled his originally scheduled feud with Umaga. Also, Umaga has apparently gone back heel. The match was good. It seemed to me that Jeff Hardy is more over than John Cena.
The put over the return to RAW of Triple H. Backstage, there was a run-in between Mr. Kennedy and Mr. McMahon. Now, I know they're holding off until October to reveal who the illegitimate child is, but with these subtle hints, people are going to know before the big announcement. I wish when Vince asked Kennedy if he knew that Kennedy was his middle name, he would have said, "Yeah, Paul Heyman told me" or something like that. The little line about, "he walks kinda funny" followed by Vince's Power Walk was great. I've tried to duplicate the Power Walk and it's not as easy as it looks. I've tried it before.
Next up was Carlito's Cabana with the Chairman of the WWE, Vincent Kennedy McMahon! Vince had some big announcement to reveal on the Cabana. Vince states that he would sue the woman who is the mother of his child. So, I'm guessing some actress will be brought in to play the mom. Vince & Carlito went on a power rant which brought The Game, The King of Kings, The Cerebral Assassin, Triple H, down to the ring. Triple H looks better than ever. He's dropped some poundage and as he got in the ring, he had an envelope in his back pocket. Triple H got a better response on RAW than he did at Summerslam. Triple H didn't waste any time getting involved in the illegitimate child storyline. He too, just like The Coach, has gotten involved in the connection. He said that he's narrowed it down to 4 women who could have had Vince's kid. This was a pretty funny segment, mainly because Triple H & Carlito were throwing out their one-liners. One of the funniest was the lady that looked like Carlito's sister. Carlito went nuts & Vince apologized for waking Carlito up. Triple H followed up saying that everybody's been with Carlito's sister & she doesn't spit, and well, you know the rest.
The last "lady" was somebody named Frank. They implied that Vince might swing from both sides of the plate. Carlito threw in a "That's not cool" line. Vince freaked out and tossed everybody out, which was pretty funny. Triple H said that Vince should be worried about his image, especially with the new problems that came out today. Those new problems were that Vince is running a new rooster fighting ring, also known as, cock fighting. Carlito said it was illegal in Puerto Rico and it's also illegal everywhere else. They went on a deal about Vince not loving animals which lead to him saying he loved cocks. Ahh, classic Triple H. Vince ended up leaving and Carlito got in Triple H's face. These two have had some legitimate real life heat after comments about Carlito's work with Ric Flair were made in WWE Magazine. None the less, Triple H delivered a Pedigree to Carlito to end the segment.
The next match was a 6-man tag between World's Greatest Tag Team, Daivari, Cody Rhodes, and London & Kendrick. So far, this could have been the match of the night. I didn't get what was up with Shelton's hair. I guess he's trying to be like Carlton from "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" when he was the guy from Home Alone on one episode. Cody's got a ways to go but he's looking good in the ring each week. I wish they would give him a finisher instead of a crossbody. Last week, I went to codyrhodes.com and downloaded his theme & put it in my iPod. I thought this match could have been longer. I hope they'll start some kind of 4-way feud for the World Tag Team Championships between Cryme Tyme, London & Kendrick, World's Greatest Tag Team, and Cade & Murdoch.
I didn't get why Daivari was still in the ring talking with his head gear on. I loved Cryme Tyme's "what are you saying" deal. Cryme Tyme's getting a good response from their "money, money, yeah, yeah" stuff each week. This week, they sold Daivari's durka durka. A plant got the headwear for 5 bucks. This brought out Cade & Murdoch. Trevor Murdoch got himself a new hat this week. Before Cryme Tyme got in the ring, they had an idea & got Cade's cowboy hat. Instead of selling it, they gave it away. I hope this push leads to a tag title shot and hopefully a reign. They need to at least get the division back on the map. I know the Highlanders are heading to Smackdown, so it's time to get it on the map on both shows.
Backstage, Randy Orton busted in and started Vince down. He said Vince had the power to give him a rematch against John Cena. Orton, like a crazed maniac, demanded that Vince give him the rematch. Vince said that right now, Orton didn't deserve another title match. Vince said Orton needed to show him he deserved a title shot. It reminded me of Vince's Ruthless Aggression speech he gave a few years ago. Orton walked out and slammed the door. They then showed Maria warming up to face Beth Phoenix.
At the beginning of the show, they put up a graphic for a Fatal 4 Way to determine the #1 Contender for the ECW Championship. Now, if Punk wins and doesn't get the belt, they might as well put him on Heat or back in OVW. Punk is the shit and despite him getting a title shot, he's being buried. It must suck to be Tazz & Joey Styles. You call one match and sit there for the rest of the night.
Let the destruction of Beth Phoenix begin. Maria was the first victim in what I like to call, Tour de Beth. Phoenix didn't waste any time by coming down and attacking Maria from behind. Shockingly, the ref seemed like he had a mic on. Even though she has a rack and sometimes a cape, she fights like a man. She kicked Maria's ass pretty quick and walked to the back. The fans didn't seem to care. Nobody really knows Beth. I would recommend putting the belt on Mickie James and letting them feud for a while so Beth could get over. But, they want to put it on Candice Michelle & her techno theme music. The women's division ain't what it used to be.
After the commercial, we got a backstage interview with Candice Michelle. Candice was talking and was interrupted by Snitsky. He put over his love to inflict pain and freakish strength. They then moved to Vince & Coach. Vince said that he feels the woman will give up the identity of the child by next week's RAW. Regal came in to reveal that the rest of the McMahon family will be at RAW next week to confront Vince. Regal said that they won't be alone. They'll have their attorney's with them. It's gonna be a shindig next week! WAHOO!
Judging from Orton's comments, I was expecting some interference on his part during the main event. The match itself almost put me to sleep. I had a test tomorrow to study for and I caught myself studying quite a bit. I did hear the "Let's go Cena" vs. "Let's go Booker" chant. Thank God Orton came in and started beating down Cena with Booker. Instead of giving the kick to Cena's head, he pulled Cena's dad over the railing and within a split second, gave him the kick to the head. First word's out of my mouth were "holy shit." It wasn't like Cena's dad had a lot of time to get ready to take the kick. Needless to say, this feud will continue.
I give this RAW:
3 out of 4 ring posts
Now, this blog is usually posted a little after 11PM, EST. The reason I'm mentioning this is I have some roommates who just love waking people up early in the morning. I usually don't mention things like this, but they've got some payback coming about 3AM this morning. I don't personally like being woke up in the morning when I'm trying to sleep. So, I figured I would pay their asses back. Fellas, I hope you read this. I tried to warn you. I tried to be nice about it but you kept being loud & waking me up. So, when Metallica starts blasting, or some theme music, or doors start slamming, remember, I tried to warn you. As the saying goes, payback is a bitch.
