Excess - ECW, New Stars, More

The WWE has hit a stale point. There's no denying that the past year hasn't been great at all as far as the WWE is concerned. We had the dreadful Benoit stuff and the lack of top talent. But, when you think about it, it's the WWE's fault. Let me explain.

ECW was to become a breeding ground for future talent. Remember the New Breed unleashed? What I've seen is former mid-card guys and even guys that used to be top talent in the 90's go back and try to be made into stars. That's not going to work in my opinion. For instance, Big Daddy V used to wrestle as Mabel and Viscera and all that other crap. They sent him to ECW to try an get him "re-over" with the fans. The only thing that comes to mind when I think of Big Daddy V is a bunch of jelly flopping around everywhere and not the monster that the WWE wants me to think of. The average fan doesn't care about a guy that looks like he's going to have a heart attack if he eats a few more burgers.

The next guy is John Morrison. I realize that he's still young, but he's already been an IC champ and a tag champ. Why move him to the "C" brand to develop him? They could have put him on Smackdown and done the same thing. Out of the ECW guys, Morrison has improved the most. He's gone from a guy that couldn't cut a promo to save his life to somebody who's getting more comfortable in his new character.

My next guy is CM Punk. I have no problems with Punk other than the fact the creative team doesn't see him as a big star. That's one reason I couldn't be an ROH guy going to the WWE. Even if you're over more than most of the mid-card and a few top talent guys, they'll hold you down. Punk is over. If you don't think he is, you're wrestling knowledge sucks.

My whole problem with ECW is it's stuck in a rut. They're not creating new stars and the ones they're trying to create aren't getting over. Kevin Thorn could be a great star. I could make him into a darker version of the Undertaker during the Ministry era. What do they do with him? Have him wrestle jobbers. Move him to Smackdown. The kids will definitely be scared of him because whenever he's got his makeup on and that entrance music hits, he looks like a sick individual.

The WWE has screwed it's self up with not having top guys to turn to. During Cena's title reign, stars were attempted to be built only to have them be fed to Cena. Umaga was built up before he was crushed by Cena. I'm not saying Umaga is a draw but he could have been a good heel. He's still got the potential to be a big star but he's getting fed to Triple H. I hate to say it, but it's beginning to look like WCW. There are no top guys being built up. Yeah, Orton is a fresh face in the title picture but he's been around for a while and already held a title. You can't create new guys by having them be destroyed by Cena. I give Cena a lot of credit. He worked his ass off but he didn't help the company as far as making new stars go. Cena didn't need to go undefeated for a year to be over with the fans. Somebody like Kennedy or Lashley could have done that and become a star. Cena was already a star before he went on his tirade.

I'm not saying I have all of the answers but the creative doesn't either. I realize injuries happen and suspensions happen which nixes pushes. Jeff Hardy could be built up as a legitimate face. The only thing is he's busy screwing around in the IC title division. What happened when Cena won the United States Championship? A year later, he was winning the WWE Championship. You could build Jeff up as the one that just can't seem to win the big one and then he finally does.

Carlito isn't a heel you can take seriously. I liken him to when King Booker first started during his reign. He wasn't somebody you could hate. Stuff like the beat down between Carlito, Umaga, and Triple H will help these guys providing whoever they're beating down sells it. Have Carlito as Umaga's "handler" and they go around beating the hell out of people. After a few months, Umaga gets sick of Carlito's shit and turns on him in a way that would make Umaga a face, much like at Vengeance where people were cheering his destruction of the supposed-face Santino Marella. Then, make Carlito into an-Edge type guy who some how gets the win by cheating, despite being dominated. You give Carlito more heat for cheating. Before you know it, Carlito gets a shot at the IC title or something which could propel him into the main event level.

Kennedy could be another heel if they'll ever give him a chance. One way to do that is have him interrupt people's promos or matches with something "more important" to say. He can attack people backstage. Hell, I would go as far as to do with Kennedy what Bryan Danielson does in ROH. Over referee 5-counts, keep the hold until 5 and say "I've got until 5 ref!" It's not rocket science. You can make Kennedy into an arrogant guy but you can't feed him to Triple H or somebody. Hell, use the old Kurt Angle formula where he comes out all cheery and says he's what everybody should strive to be and all that 3 I's crap.

Over on the Smackdown side of things, the former breeding ground, nothing is being done to help these guys. The only thing worth watching is Matt Hardy & MVP. Nobody can buy Batista a personality and he hasn't grown one since he's arrived. That animal shit can only last so long before it's time to expand. The part that's crucial to being an "animal" is being intense. Grunting while you're talking won't work no matter how many times Goldberg did it.

Don't get me started on Khali. Why he still has a job amazes me. I've wanted him gone since day one.

To the people that say No Mercy was great, yeah, it was ok. It was basically a stroke of Triple H's ego. I'm not the only one saying this because I've ready elsewhere. What I mean was, he came out, won the title, successfully defended it, then put over Orton. Stroke the ego big boy, stroke it. What better way to get closer to Flair's 16 title reigns than hold it for less than 3 hours. Great. What's next? Undertaker against Jim Ross to pad his Wrestlemania streak?

This coming Monday is my 20th birthday. Therefore, I won't be doing a "RAW is Blogged" review. I'm going to try and enjoy RAW as a fan for a change instead of a critic. If the Red Sox are playing, I doubt I watch RAW.
