The main event on ECW was great. I really enjoyed seeing the Champion vs. Champion deal between MVP and CM Punk. I wish they would allow these two to feud. If there were plans to disband ECW, this would be a great opportunity. They could have MVP claim that the US title was above the ECW title. This would leave to a unification match at Wrestlemania. MVP could win and there would be no more ECW Championship. Let's face it, ECW isn't what it once was or what we all think it should be. ECW was brought back to be a 3rd brand and to have a big name carry the title for a while. Rob Van Dam didn't work out and the next plan was Kurt Angle. We all know what happened with Angle so they turned to Big Show. When stuff didn't look like it would work out, they made ECW into a "developmental" territory. I think they should just go ahead and change the name and stop using the ECW name. ECW has become just another Heat or Velocity that happens to have a title. A feud between Punk & MVP would benefit both guys and help disband ECW. I don't want to see ECW go away but let's face it, they're wasting time with it right now.
Speaking of a brand extension, it looks as if they're going to have another draft sometime after Wrestlemania. Personally, I like this idea. Wrestlemania is the culmination of everything. The RAW after Wrestlemania is usually a down show that may have someone's debut. The next week would be the best option. This time, they really need to shake things up. I think they really need to sit down and shift EVERYBODY around. I think the champions may need to stay put although I wouldn't mind seeing the tag champs switch or even the IC & US champs switch. One thing that really needs to be done is the movement of the Cruiserweight division to ECW. ECW needs a storyline or something to prevent the torture we endure watching Big Flabby V. They don't need a 3-hour show to waste time with only a few significant picks. If they want to drive traffic to their web site, they could do a live special on Sunday or some day. Regardless of what they do, they really need to shift people around.
I saw something on the comment board about the tag titles that I thought was interesting. Someone said something about unifying the titles. While I like that idea, I still hope they keep the brand extension. One thing I liked about the Undisputed Championship was the champion was on both shows. If they did unify the tag belts, this would be something I would want them to do. On RAW, we have Cade & Murdoch, the under used Highlanders, London & Kendrick, Santino & Carlito, and Holly & Rhodes. On Smackdown, we have Deuce & Domino, the Edgeheads (formerly the Major Brothers), Jesse & Festus, and Dave Taylor & Drew McIntyre. John Morrison & The Miz are the WWE Tag Team Champions and they're with ECW. That's 10 teams so far.
What they could do is have Morrison & Miz show up on RAW and attack Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes. Rhodes & Holly won't be champions very long so Cade & Murdoch could take back over. The teams would be involved in a tournament to crown the new Undisputed World Tag Team Champions. The WWE tag titles would be the ones that would be defunct. Moving on, the champions would get a first and second round bye. The first round of matches would be contested on each teams' respective show. Still with me? Holly & Rhodes would take on Santino & Carlito and London & Kendrick would take on the Highlanders. Let's say Santino & Carlito and London & Kendrick win their matches. The next week on RAW, they would face off with each other with London & Kendrick winning. On Smackdown, Jesse & Festus would take on Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon More and Drew McIntyre & Dave Taylor would take on Deuce & Domino. Let's say Jesse & Festus and Deuce & Domino win. The next week on Smackdown, they would face each other with Jesse & Festus winning.
So far, we've got London & Kendrick winning on RAW and Jesse & Festus winning on Smackdown. London & Kendrick would face the RAW tag champions in Cade & Murdoch on RAW with the belts on the line. Jesse & Festus would face the Smackdown tag champions in The Miz & John Morrison on Smackdown with the belts on the line. Basically, whoever wins gets the belts and gets a shot at being the Undisputed World Tag Team Champions. Cade & Murdoch win their match & the belts and Jesse & Festus would win their match & the belts. Move forward to the next PPV, Cade & Murdoch represent RAW as the World Tag Team Champions and Jesse & Festus represent Smackdown as the WWE Tag Team Champions. Those two teams would face each other in a 2-out-of-3 falls match to crown the Undisputed World Tag Team Champions. It may sound complicated but if they wanted to unify the two sets of tag titles, this would be a cool and interesting way to do it.
Moving on, I like what they are doing with the former Major Brothers as the Edgeheads. It reminds me of Team Angle, JBL's Cabinet, and even Evolution. They're pairing young guys with a main event star to give the young guys a rub. I like the idea and whenever I saw the way Edge won on Sunday, I loved the idea even more. The Majors looked exactly like Edge! The tattoos and everything else was done perfectly. I hope they'll get a push and maybe a reign as the tag champs. Nobody really knows about them so it's good that they've been repackaged and put in an angle with Edge.
One thing I've been trying to figure out is why Chavo Guerrero is getting involved with CM Punk. I'm already looking forward to the Gold Standard Shelton Benjamin getting involved with Punk. That's a feud I'm counting down the days 'til. But, why Chavo? Chavo did his stuff with Rey Mysterio and got busted in the Signature Pharmacy stuff. I could see why they did this because he's run his course on Smackdown. They could put him on RAW but RAW is filled up with just about everybody. ECW is the best bet for Chavo but I question why he's already involved with Punk and the ECW title.
I read on the comment board people's concerns with Jeff Hardy ending up like John Cena. I don't really see Hardy ending up like Cena. I think Hardy will bring a change in pace as far as styles are concerned with the title picture. If you look at the World Heavyweight and WWE title pictures, the champions use a ground/technical style. CM Punk uses a technical/submission style. The past few champions have always used a power style. Think about it. Cena, Batista, Lashley, The Undertaker, and The Great Khali all used a power style. I think Jeff Hardy would bring a fresh style to the table. We're so used to seeing slow matches and with Hardy we get some pretty fast paced matches. I don't think Hardy would "bore" fans to a certain extent because of his matches. I personally enjoy his matches despite the same moves and stuff. Face it, all guys use the same moves but it's to the extent they perform that bores people.
